Online and Digital Scams

 Beaware of smishing or online scam.

Dear Friends,

You would be aware about the increasing online scams or crypto scams that is in news every now and then. In current post lets focus on some of them with respect to how do they scam people.

  1. smishing: #smishing is a technique in which you get sms or whatsap message which threatens or warns you of certain consequences. Say for example, you might get a message as your bank account will be freezed if you dont update the PAN card within 24 hours. There will be a link given in the message. Once you click and update the details, you are scammed. Never ever try to open such links on phone, or mail or whatsapp. These are potential scams they may take your password, personal information etc. Look for the sender information, it should not be a phone number or any thing that is not from bank. You can always call to source and check if there is such message.
  2. email scam: Now a days the scamsters create a similar email id and try to send you some updates along with a link. The intention behind this might be you use their platform to login to your account. Always see minutely the authenticity of the email id. usually these emails have spelling mistakes, incorrect email id etc.
  3. Twitter/social media scam: In these latest technique, in social media, the imposters create some ids with same name that is in your list. They contact you as the phone is lost he is in a cyber booth and immidiately need some money so he can repay morning. They may even contact friend of your friends. Always see the ID, call to the person or call to the family members to understand the situation. Over twitter, now a days crypto currency is in trends. There may be group of people who would provide you all data to convince you as they are authentic and ask you to login or create an account with them. They will take money and you may be adviced to wait for 1 year or 45 days for return. And it will never ever happen.

Be cautious when it is financial transactions. Never be in hurry and never be greedy.
